If you’re getting tired of the same old soy-based veggie burger all summer long, why not try something new?
Our friends at GoGo Quinoa have a fantastic, easy-to-use burger mix made from – you guessed it – quinoa!
Quinoa is a fantastic vegetarian option from the pseudocereal family of plants. Not quite a seed, and not quite a grain, quinoa is one of the only complete vegetarian proteins. Some people think this means it has a LOT of protein. Quinoa, in fact, has a pretty average amount of protein for a grain-type food. Simply put, a food is classified as a complete protein when it has a “complete” balance of amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein. This means that, unlike other grains, you don’t have to pair quinoa with anything else to get all the amino acids you need.
This burger does make a good showing in the protein department, though, with 8g/burger (your typical soy-based burger comes in just a bit higher at 13g).
Some reasons why you may want to switch up your usual soy:
- Soy is one of the most genetically modified crops (don’t worry – Moberly carries almost exclusively GMO-Free and organic soy products)
- It can have an impact on hormone balance
- It can negatively affect your thyroid
- Soy is one of the most common allergens
Most people, however, can tolerate quinoa quite nicely!
About the Veggie Burger
Just add water! This mix is SO easy to make, and is ready to eat in 7-8 minutes. It’s organic, gluten-free, and can also be used as a gluten-free breading for other dishes.
The ingredients are simple: just quinoa, amaranth, salt, and spices! It may not be food your grandma can pronounce, but it’s food that has never seen the inside of a test tube.
Have you tried GoGo Quinoa’s veggie burger mix yet? What do you think?
